Loshar originates from the Tibetan words “LO” meaning “year” and “SAR” meaning “new”, hence Happy Loshar (Happy New Year). This festival falls in February and is celebrated by the Tibetans and Nepalese Sherpa families.

The major activities during the festivals are performance of their traditional dances in their new clothes and jewelries, getting together for new year feast and exchange of gifts. Since it is a happy moment, they are all in colourful dresses (traditional and western) forming a huge and exciting gathering lost in excitement and fanfare.
